Project #7 Process Post
Reference, The Windmill at Wijk bij Duurstede (c. 1670) by Jacob van Ruisdael Since one of my goals is composition with this project, I think I want to try and interesting perspective and layout with the satellite. Right now, I'm thinking doing a sort of golden ratio with the dish's center at the end of the spiral, with the tree line forming the rest of the curve on the left. To get a sense of scale, I'm also experimenting with how much I can sort of tilt the perspective poin

Q3 Awareness Post
I have chosen Anne Desmet as my awareness artist, who is a living contemporary wood engraver and printmaker based in London, UK. Her primary gallery representation is Eames Fine Art, and her work is also shown at Bankside Gallery in London and Kevis House Gallery in Salisbury. Project #5 Process post
So far, I've decided on my composition. I want to try a sort of golden ratio composition with inspiration from Hokusai's wave painting, but with trash and rubble. I think the biggest difficulties I am approaching are for the part where the rubble will actually start curving upwards, because it might get messy and hard to determine the structure of the wave, considering it's all made of small pieces of rubble. I'm also still deciding if and how I should fill the background spa

Process Post for Project #4
This project, my goals are to attempt lasercutting as a process of etching, and attempt replicas. I have decided that I will use my old crane drawing from last year, but etched using the lasercutting. First, before doing any of that, to ensure the process even worked we attempted to etch a small thumbnail sketch for one of my earlier projects this year. It turned out okay, but it's possible that either the lasers are cutting too deep, or I'm not dampening my paper enough to t

Awareness Post: Gail Brodholt RE
Gail Brodholt RE is an artist born in South London, England, where she currently lives and works. She has a BA in Fine Art with a specialization in painting from Kingston University, but is also a leading contemporary linocut printmaker specializing in urban and industrial landscapes. She particularly focuses on London's transport infrastructure, which appealed to me because of my work's central themes of infrastructure. I was also drawn to her very strong black and white pri

Process Post (In Class Project #2)
For this in class project, I am focusing on composition as my student goal, and 'dirtier' as my teacher goal. For my summer project, I think I did some interesting experimentation with getting more dirtier and messy with black around the composition, and so I think it will be interesting to explore that more. However, the copper etching I did for my summer project is quite different from the plexiglass etching I do in place, and it will be difficult to get the same kind of sp

Figure Drawing Blog Post
1 hour charcoal subtractive, 1 minute thumbnail, 1 minute thumbnail Since my work usually doesn't pertain to drawing figures, practicing figure drawing again this year was incredibly valuable as it allowed me to explore the subject, something I wouldn't usually deal with in my own work. I also think that the ideas of gesture, form, structure, etc. are really important to any type of art, regardless if it is figure drawing. I thought I was able to really improve this time, esp

Figure Drawing Blog Post
Learning about figure drawing with Tommy Van Auken was really informative and helped me understand how to set the foundations for making good figure drawings. Before I learned a lot from this experience, I think I tended to try to make figures in a backwards fashion, aiming for detail without the necessary structure. After learning how to do proportion correctly, I always noticed there was something off with the figures. They never felt alive, and their poses were always weir
